The military was a huge part of Ray’s life for 21 years. After attending the Wisconsin Military Academy he worked to attain the rank of Major with the Wisconsin Army National Guard. Being civic minded, he held leadership positions for several years in the Rapids Municipal Credit Union, the Town of Grand Rapids Planning and Zoning Committee and at St. John Lutheran Church.

Ray loved the tranquility of outdoors and enjoyed planting and harvesting trees on his farm on 48th street. His spare time was spent logging and operating his sawmill to provide lumber for various projects. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and playing cards. Ray’s greatest joy was in being a loving father to his three daughters and to watch them become successful adults.
