Obituary

Joy L. Siekert of Wisconsin Rapids died peacefully at her home on February 13, 2021 at the age of 86 with family by her side. 

A funeral for Joy will be held Saturday, March 20, 2021 at noon at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sigel with the Reverend Ryan Anderson officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church, beginning at 10:00am until the time of service.

Joy was born May 7, 1934 in Wisconsin Rapids to Emil W. and Minnie M. (Wendt) Ehlert.  She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids.   After graduation from high school she earned her pediatric nursing degree from Augustana Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, IL.  Upon graduation, Joy worked as an obstetric nurse in Wisconsin Rapids for four years.  On November 9, 1957 she was united in marriage to Leonard R. Siekert at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids.   

Joy was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sigel, and had served as a church secretary, choir member, and Sunday school teacher.  She was also a coordinator for Franklin Graham’s shoe box ministry, Samaritan’s Purse, for many years.

Joy enjoyed knitting, woodworking, wood burning, wood carving, painting, and was an active member of the Golden Brushes painting group and the Wisconsin River Woodcarvers.  She loved spending time with family, tending her many flower gardens, and feeding the birds.  

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Leonard R. Siekert in 2008; her parents; her brother Laird Ehlert; sister Ardelle (Ehlert) Bloedel; brother David Ehlert; and son-in-law Roy Kinnunen.

She is survived by her brother Emil (Betty) Ehlert, Jr. of Wisconsin Rapids; and her children, Laurie (Cliff) Johnson of Spencer, Dan (Keri) Siekert of Wisconsin Rapids, John (Dorothy) Siekert of DePere, Paul Siekert of Wisconsin Rapids, and Beth Kinnunen of Wisconsin Rapids.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel, and Christopher Johnson; Kaitlyn and Megan Siekert; Christian (Sarah) and Michaella Siekert; and Ty Siekert.

In lieu of flowers, the family will give memorials to Joy’s favorite charities in her memory.
