Eleanor Emily Sommerfeldt, age 94, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 11, 2021 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Dr. Carlton Andersen and Deacon James Johnston will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services on Monday at the church.
Eleanor was born June 21, 1927 in Oshkosh, WI to Fred and Mabel (Wittenberg) Braun. She married Franklin “Tuffy” Sommerfeldt on February 25, 1950 in Wisconsin Rapids. Franklin passed away January 10, 2005.
Eleanor worked in the office at the Mead Inn, Indian Trail (now Ocean Spray) Cranberry, and Fritzinger and Daly Insurance until her retirement.
In her younger years, Eleanor loved to snowmobile and was an active member of the Kellner Knights Snowmobile Club with her husband Tuffy. Being a mom to four boys, she grew to love sports. She enjoyed cheering on the Cubs and Packers. She also enjoyed watching auto racing and followed NASCAR. Eleanor looked forward to working in her gardens each new year.
Eleanor loved to sing and performed at many weddings and funerals over the years. She also performed with the Sweet Adelines for many years. She was a faithful member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where she attended worship services and Bible study regularly. She loved playing cards with her group from church and other friends.
Eleanor is survived by three sons: David Sommerfeldt of Wisconsin Rapids, John (Jolein) Sommerfeldt of Amherst, and William (Peggy) Sommerfeldt of Wisconsin Rapids; grandchildren: Jennifer Clements, Niki (Josh) Sanger, Jenna (Scott) Fowler, and Skeets (Stacy) Sommerfeldt; great-grandchildren: James, Emmalynn, Kinley, Kenna, Kiptyn, Collette, Zoey, Darcie, Aubree, and Charlie; and her sister, Joanne McMiller. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Franklin “Tuffy”; son Russell Sommerfeldt; great-grandson Jackson Sanger; sister Edna Appel; and brothers, Walter Braun and Robert Braun.
